Thesis 2 - Skin Installation - Quick Start

  1. If you are new to Thesis 2 make sure to read the Thesis 2 docs listed above to get up to speed on the basics.
  2. Install skins by activating Thesis 2 and going to Thesis -> Manage Skins -> Upload Skin.
  3. If you want the skin to look like our demo site, read this. Also one of our customers, Jupiter Jim, put together a great video showing the general process of installing a Thesis 2 skin here.

After Installation Tips

  1. Make sure your: "Settings -> Reading -> Front page displays" is set to "A static page (select below)" and both drop downs have a page selected. (just create two blank pages if you haven't yet - called Home and Blog for example, to choose here)
  2. Visit "Thesis -> Skin Content" to find the skins options.
  3. Visit "Thesis -> Skin Design" to change the built in design options for this skin.
  4. Setup your navigation menu at: "Appearance -> Menus"
  5. Add your Header / Logo image at: "Thesis -> Header Image"
  6. Visit the Appearance -> Widgets area to add content where needed.

Themedy Settings Explained

You can view the Themedy settings by visiting "Thesis -> Skin Content" and "Thesis -> Skin Design"

Note: On this page you can click on the buttons under the top drop-down to hide / show certain areas on your site. A checked box will be displayed, uncheck it to hide it - give it a try!

Back To Top: Change the back to top text shown on the bottom left of yours site.

Home - Bottom Left Header: Change the header text for this area (default "Latest Posts")

Home - Bottom Left Posts: Change which items are displayed in this area. (default "Post Type: Posts, Query Type: Categories, Category: Business, Number of Posts to Show: 3")

Home - Bottom Right Header: Change the header text for this area (default "Latest Posts")

Home - Bottom Right Posts: Change which items are displayed in this area. (default "Post Type: Posts, Query Type: Categories, Category: Travel, Number of Posts to Show: 3")

Home - Top Left Header: Change the header text for this area (default "Latest Posts")

Home - Top Left Posts: Change which items are displayed in this area. (default "Post Type: Posts, Query Type: Recent Posts, Number of Posts to Show: 3")

Home - Top Right Header: Change the header text for this area (default "Latest Posts")

Home - Top Right Posts: Change which items are displayed in this area. (default "Post Type: Posts, Query Type: Categories, Category: Technology, Number of Posts to Show: 3")

Primary Menu: This is where you set the primary navigation menu you want to use on your site - create it in Appearance -> Menus first.

Secondary Menu: This is where you set the secondary navigation menu you want to use on your site - create it in Appearance -> Menus first. On our demo site we created a secondary menu using categories as the menu items.

Themedy - Featured Slider: Options for the top slider area on your homepage can be found here.

Themedy - Slideshow: This is the secondary picture slideshow area between the main content areas on the homepage.

Themedy - Subscriptions: If you enter URLs in here the links will be displayed to the right in your top menu area.

Attribution: Customize the text shown in the footer area.

Thesis -> Skin Design

Use this area to set the various design options provided.

Hints

Duplicate Posts on Homepage: If you have duplicate posts in your Top Left Posts, Top Right, Bottom Right etc. areas on your home page you can get around this by using the "Adcanced Query Options" settings in each one of these areas options page.

Click into this area and add a number in the "Offset" box, this will then skip that amount of posts before it displays each entry. For example, if in the Top Left box you are displaying 3 posts from all categories, in the Top Right box you would add an offset of "3" so that the top right column won't be showing the exact same posts.
